Syracuse competed in its third indoor track meet of the season on Friday and Saturday at the Virginia Tech Invitational. The Orange combined for four top-5 individual placements across the men’s and women’s events and freshman Sean Tucker — a running back who set Syracuse football’s single-season rushing record — made his track and field debut after speculation in the fall.

On Friday night, in the men’s 60-meter, Trei Thorogood placed fifth with a time of 00:06.82 in the event’s finals. Tucker competed in the event’s preliminary race, placing 13th at 00:07.01, but he did not qualify for the finals. In the women’s 60-meter race, Kahniya James placed 13th (00:07.75) and also missed out on the finals.

Jaheem Hayles finished first in the men’s 60-meter hurdles race with a time of 00:07.90. He was followed by Isaiah Lewis in fifth (00:08.10) and Anthony Vazquez who placed seventh (00:08.15). Shaleah Colaire was Syracuse’s lone runner on the women’s side and placed fourth (00:08.56).

Janelle Pottinger (00:40.68), Kennedy Tarley (00:40.92), Natalya Rodney (00:41.95) and Jana Riley (00:42.74) all placed in the women’s 300-meter race, finishing 12th, 13th, 20th and 22nd, respectively. James Nmah was Syracuse’s only men’s runner in the 300-meter and placed 16th (00:35.85).

On Saturday, Thorogood (00:22.09) and Nmah (00:22.70) led the men’s side in the 200-meter placing sixth and 13th, respectively. On the women’s side James took 10th place at 00:25.34 and Colaire did not finish.

In the final race for Syracuse of the meet in the women’s 4×400-meter relay, the Syracuse team took sixth place with a final time of 3:51.09. The men’s team did not compete in the relay.

Syracuse’s next scheduled meet is at Boston University on Jan. 28 and 29 at the BU Terrier Invitational.
