Former Syracuse rower Hattie Taylor claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 8+ at the 2024 Olympics for Great Britain. Taylor, who rowed with SU from 2014-2017, also competed at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

In Paris, Taylor’s crew crossed the line with a time of 5:59.5, five seconds behind first place Romania and less than a second after silver medalist Canada. Taylor improved on her fourth place finish in 2020 where she missed out on bronze by 1.1 seconds.

Prior to her Olympic career, Taylor placed fourth at the 2016 U23 World Championships in the coxless 4. She also competed in the European Rowing Championships from 2019-2024 (excluding 2020), capturing silver medals each year except for 2021, when she claimed bronze.

At Syracuse, Taylor was a member of the varsity 8 for most of her final three seasons with the Orange. In her senior year, she was honored as a First Team All-ACC nominee and a Second Team All-American.

Taylor’s podium finish gave Great Britain its eighth medal in rowing at the 2024 Olympics and its 30th overall at the time. It currently has the fourth-most medals of any country, but ranks fifth in golds behind China, Australia, the United States and France.
