Syracuse men’s lacrosse (2-0, 0-0 Atlantic Coast) stayed at No. 2 in the Week 1 Inside Lacrosse Top 20 poll, which was released Monday.

SU’s place in the poll hasn’t changed since this season and continued following a 13-5 win over Vermont Friday. In the victory, attack Joey Spallina scored five goals and provided five assists. Spallina’s 10-point tally tied a career-high, matching his total from a 16-3 blowout over Manhattan last year.

The Orange’s man-down unit also asserted their dominance against the Catamounts. The unit killed 5-of-6 Vermont extra-man opportunities, with the lone goal coming in the fourth quarter when the game was already decided.

One area of weakness for SU Friday was at the faceoff X. Syracuse’s faceoff specialists John Mullen and Johnny Richiusa lost the faceoff battle 12-9 to the Catamounts.

Next, Syracuse hosts No. 16 Towson Monday. The Tigers rose one spot in the IL Top 20 Poll even though they lost to then-No. 8 Johns Hopkins 11-10 Tuesday. Monday’s contest is a rematch of the first round of the NCAA Tournament 2024 when the Orange overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Towson 20-15.
