21 Savage will be headlining this year’s Juice Jam festival on Sept. 8 at Skytop field.

The Juice Jam 2019 lineup features 21 Savage, EarthGang, FLETCHER, Mt. Joy and Kilo Kish. With University Union’s annual music festival less than a week away, here are some facts to know about each act.

 21 Savage

The 26-year-old rapper has been making music since 2015. Since then, he has performed at festivals such as Lollapalooza, Coachella, Rolling Loud Bay Area and the Dreamville Festival.

One of the songs that propelled 21 Savage’s career was Post Malone’s “Rockstar,” which he was featured on and won a Billboard Music Award for in 2018.

21 Savage started his own philanthropy that educates kids on how to save money. He unveiled the “21 Savage Bank Account Campaign” on “The Ellen Degeneres Show.” Savage himself donated $21,000 to kick off the effort.

This is not 21 Savage’s first time at Syracuse. The rapper played songs from his album “Savage Mode” to a sold-out Goldstein Auditorium crowd in 2016.

EarthGang

EarthGang, funk hip-hop duo of Olu and WowGr8, dropped its song “UP” on all platforms on Aug. 29. Previously, the duo had debuted it on COLORS, but fans were treated to the surprise release. EarthGang has hinted at its full-length debut album entitled “Mirrorland” to be released on Sept. 6.

While the duo appeared on numerous songs from Dreamville’s massively successful collaboration album “Revenge of the Dreamers III,” they are also part of Spillage Village, a musical collective from Atlanta with three albums. It consists of EarthGang, J.I.D, Jordxn and Hollywood JB.

Fletcher

Fletcher studied at the Clive Davis Institute at New York University. She took a leave of absence after a year-and-a-half of school to move to Nashville for a music collaboration before heading back to NYU to finish her studies.

Since her debut digital single “War Paint,” Cari Elise Fletcher has been an advocate for LGBTQ-related issues

It’s really important to just be talking about sexuality because the more we talk about it and it’s normalized, the more the next generation will never have to come out,” FLETCHER said in a 2017 Billboard interview. “It’s so stupid that people have to even come out. The more we talk about it, the less in the future that will have to happen.”

Mt. Joy

The band is named after a mountain in Valley Forge National Historical Park in Pennsylvania, which is close to where two of the band members grew up.

Matt Quinn and Sam Cooper, the creators of the band, went to high-school together in Philadelphia, where they would play music together. It wasn’t until they reunited in 2016 that they officially formed the band.

Quinn dropped out of law school when the band’s single “Astrovan,” started to gain popularity on Spotify.

Kilo Kish

Kilo Kish started out as a design student studying textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She graduated in 2012.

The rapper describes making music as “just kidding around” in an interview with Kish in Wonderland Magazine. She said she doesn’t take the process of creating a song too seriously; she doesn’t like to spend more than half an hour writing a song.

She’s collaborated with well-known musicians, such as Childish Gambino, Vince Staples, The Internet and Gorillaz, on her 2016 album “Reflections in Real Time.”
